Budo Training
I got so into fixing my friend’s computer, and playing with Ubuntu that I missed my rescheduled Friday lesson. I completely reinstalled and rebuilt Ubuntu and will most likely do it again soon because the newest official release is due out in about a week. 🙂
I did make my second lesson, (after leading my early morning fitness kickboxing class) and as usual, it was great. Training in Budo Taijutsu is like practicing something you are trying to learn such as learning to skate, or ride a bike. You have to practice it and do it to get it. I hate to miss any opportunity to learn. It was pretty chilly training yesterday. We did profit from practicing and I’m glad I have this opportunity!
Been busy training and building my PC
I rebuilt my old computer and put Linux on it. I LOVE IT! Read all about it here
Trained in my Martial Art Budo Taijutsu today and yesterday. I feel like I am at least making some progress. 🙂
I took my youngest two kidz to the park where I train yesterday. The weather is finally getting nice! I drove them to Madtown today and went straight to the Metro Park where I train. Then came home and worked on the computer for the rest of the day. Busy day off!
Blast from the past
Good Friday – Chocolate day!
I had ten of my kids together in my house today plus two! YES! We had fun making our annual chocolate Easter bunnies and chicks. Josh brought his date, and Joy brought her friend and my room was PACKED with my loved ones. Funny, someone heard me talking about making chocolate for Easter when I was at work today and said that I just do everything. He said that I make the rest of them look bad. I think he must have heard me talking to the I.T. girl, talking about building the kid’s computers and running phone lines and CAT5 cables through the house back before I had WIFI, and later networkig them all on WIFI. I told my co-worker that its just what you do when you have a large family. You learn to do things yourself
Buy.com Review: Nothing but problems.
I tried to order two different computer systems for a family member from Buy.com and they could not make good on either offer. They appear to have major problems with completing transactions. I would reccommend that you stay away from Buy.com! I spent ten days calling them every day trying to work out the problems. My bank could not figure out what their problems were. I can’t help but wonder if they even have the merchandise they advertise since they could not fill either order and their reasons were bogus. (On My last attempt to purchase from them, their excuse for not being able to fill my order was that they could not verify my phone number. I had no missed calls on my phone so that was definitely bogus.) From the horror stories I have read in reviews about Buy.com I am very thankful that they would not sell to me! Chances are pretty good that the computer would have been defective and the support options are not good to say the least. Look here for some of the reviews: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Buy
My son was able to purchase an awesome Quad core Gateway system from MicroCenter instead! It’s an awesome computer and we have better support options with MicroCenter! I highly reccommend them, not only because of this purchase, but also because I have been a customer there for 12 years now. I bought my first Pentium 100Mhz computer there in 1996. Two of the salesmen have been there for as long as I have been shopping there, and longer. They know me on sight and are ready to help me on the spot. (I used to build all of our family’s computers so I bought components frequently.)
🙂
I purchased a Toshiba Laptop from Abes Of Maine for another family member a year ago and I was very satisfied with their fast shipment and quality merchandise. They had the best retail price I could find for this item at the time. I recall that I tried to purchase this particular laptop from BestBuy but all of the Best Buy stores near me were sold out of this model. Abe’s Of Maine did not disappoint!
I also have had good experiences with (believe it or not) BestBuy. I know they’ve gotten some bad publicity in recent years, but they have always done right by me. In 2005 They totally replaced my first Compaq laptop (under extended warranty after 2-1/2 years) because I had to take it in 4 times for the same issue. They let me pick out any laptop I wanted for the amount I had paid for that Compaq! I chose a Gateway that is still alive! I purchased another extended warranty on the Gateway and it had to be rebuilt after 2-1/2 years last October, but they rebuilt it! I have no complaints so far with BestBuy. Now BestBuy carries Dell computers and I am very happy with my Dell Inspiron 1526 (AMD Turion 64 X2) notebook.
Surprise!
