Martial Arts

I am a beginner in the Martial Arts. I had a desire to study the Martial Arts when I was a teenager but never had the opportunity. Now, though I am beginning in middle age, and after bearing eight sons and four daughters, I have the most amazing opportunities possible to study and learn. I started in 2003 with a simple fitness kickboxing class. I lost about forty pounds, went from size 16 jeans to size 5, built up my cardio stamina and strength, then went on to take Karate in our dojo. My teacher worked with me and taught me to be an instructor for the fitness classes. I took over the fitness kickboxing classes when he was ill, on vacation, and eventually about every other day so he could teach basic Karate classes.

Now I have been blessed with the opportunity to take my studies of the Martial Arts much farther. I met a wonderful Martial Artist who has become my good friend, as well as my teacher. I look forward to learning all I can, and becoming the best person I can be. I believe that the Martial Arts will help me to develop my inner strength, character, physical abilities, and teach me to defend myself in any situation.

Everything changes. Now I am learning perseverance in adversity. I don’t always understand why things go the way that they do, but I am learning how to adapt and adjust to my circumstances. My Martial training has slowed considerably, but I can focus on fine tuning the things I know. Osu!

I am now training in the ancient art of ninjutsu. Our Sensei is Masaaki Hatsumi Soke of Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. My teachers go to Japan to train every year. I plan to go there myself at the latest by next year. See my Bujinkan blog here.
